First “One MII – Journal of the Medical Informatics Initiative” published

  • Reading time:2 mins read

The joint journal of the Medical Informatics Initiative (MII), One MII, has recently been published. It is available in print and online.

The collaboration of the four MII consortia and the MII Coordination Office on this publication reflects the development of the initiative, in which the consortial technological peculiarities have been pushed into the background by agreement on common communication standards. The focus today is much more on the MII-wide concepts and results: The data integration centers established at all German university hospitals and other locations form a nationwide research data infrastructure. The Research Data Portal for Health (FDPG) provides a central point of contact for scientists to apply for routine data for medical research.

Under the motto “Using data”, the journal’s articles, interviews and illustrations describe how the work of the MII enables the use of health data to advance medical research and improve healthcare.

Current developments of the FDPG are explained as well as specific use cases of the MII, perspectives of the Digital Progress Hubs Health and the establishment of data integration centers at non-university locations. The publication also discusses cooperation and interfaces with the Network of University Medicine (NUM), for example through the NUM-DIZ and NUM-ENRICH projects. The challenges and opportunities of the European Health Data Space (EHDS) are also addressed.
